What OEKO-TEX tests

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 is a testing and certification system for textiles. It tests for harmful substances. Every part of the product is tested, including the fabric, the thread, the labels and the trims. The certificate is renewed regularly, so always ask for the current one.

For a bag, this matters most when the bag is for food, gifts, children or retail, and when your buyers or your local rules ask for chemical safety proof.

What it does not cover

OEKO-TEX is about chemical safety. It does not check where the fibre came from, how workers are treated, or whether the material is organic or recycled. For those questions, see SEDEX audited bag manufacturing, GOTS certified cotton bags and GRS certified cotton bags.

Bags we make

Our certificate covers bags made from woven fabric of 100% jute or 100% cotton. Tell us the style and we confirm what is covered.

  • jute bags: laminated and non-laminated shoppers, bottle bags, pouches and more
  • cotton bags: shoppers, drawstring bags, pouches and canvas

How to check a supplier's OEKO-TEX claim

  1. Ask for the certificate and the label number. Check that the company name and the products match your order.
  2. Use the OEKO-TEX label check on the OEKO-TEX website to confirm the number is real and current.
  3. Check the product. A certificate for one fabric does not cover a different one.
  4. Ask about prints and trims. Inks, labels and zippers are tested parts of the product, so tell us early if your order needs a tested print.

Quality checks

When fabric arrives from the mill we check it against what was ordered. Every finished bag is then checked by hand, one by one, following strict instructions from our QC manager. You are welcome to arrange a third party inspection before the goods leave us. You can read more in our complete guide to jute bag manufacturing in India.
